The Value of Korean Skincare Solutions
As an esthetician I frequently get asked ‘why Korean skincare?’
It comes down to my passion for embracing the future.
When you receive a facial using Korean skincare you're using products, ingredients, application styles, that are not happening elsewhere in the world because not only is Korean skincare almost a decade ahead of us, but because it's constantly innovating. While there is steep competition within the skincare industry all over the world, nowhere is it more intense and evident, than in Korea. In addition, the Korean government allocates significant financial incentives to help beauty businesses launch, market, and export. This keeps Korea at the forefront of research and development of products and techniques in our industry.*
But, there are 3 reasons I use and endorse Korean skincare solutions: Tradition, Intention and Innovation
Tradition
Korea and eastern Asia in general are steeped in tradition, using herbs and fermentation processes that truly make a meaningful difference in our lives. From a very young age, Koreans are taught the importance of skincare and beauty, as it is considered an essential part of taking care of oneself. Having a beauty and skincare routine is not seen as high-maintenance in South Korea, but rather a necessary part of maintaining healthy and beautiful skin*. Their tradition takes a holistic approach to skincare that prioritizes hydration, nourishment, and customization. With generations of these beliefs, they have really figured out what works and what doesn't work.
Intention
The Korean approach is very much holistic. The focus is on the root cause rather than a ‘bandaid’, i.e. Western skincare products tend to take a corrective approach Korean skincare products are designed for more of a proactive, regular preventive approach.** Korean skincare advocates understand the delicate balance of the skin barrier, and their treatments reflect that. They perform less exfoliation and take their time to nourish the skin, which provides lasting results. Have you ever noticed how skin glows after a peel? Everybody wants that glow, but the glow achieved from a peel is not sustainable. What is sustainable is strengthening the skin barrier for a happy, healthy barrier, which delivers a natural healthy glow.
Practicing with intention also means that each treatment should be customized. Seasonal facials can be fun, but what's even better is providing a treatment that has been completely curated for you. As someone who believes in this philosophy of intention, I work from a very intentional space, and each treatment I provide is based on your skin's needs in the moment.
Innovation
One of the reasons that Korean skincare is so good is because the Korean government has actively invested in its beauty brands in order to better develop cosmetics. “As its popularity has grown, it has created demand and opportunity for business,” says Nina Vargas, a global business strategist for beauty, fashion and wellness brands. “This allowed Korean cosmetics companies to obtain help from the Korea International Trade Association (KITA, a nonprofit organization that helps small and medium enterprises enter markets abroad). In addition, Dr. Jenelle Kim, founder and formulator of JBK Wellness Labs, says that Korean skincare uses the latest science to understand exactly what the skin needs. “It utilizes ingredients in new ways, while remaining committed to formulating with centuries-proven ingredients and, for some brands, the powers of herbal medicine.” Ingredients such as Snail Mucin, PDRN, Stem Cells, Mugwart, Tranexamic Acid, Hexylresorcinol – began and continue to be used in the various ingredients Koreans put into their skincare. To ensure that the skincare solutions I recommend are effective I do research into the ingredients and I personally try things for a while, before I incorporate them into my practice. Koreans also innovate in creative ways that add to the overall user experience. It's always about the details. From the packaging, applicators, marketing and more, they make skincare fun to use.
So, bottom line, why Korean skincare at Boho Beauty? I believe in the forward-thinking experience of these products and treatments. I am using technologies, products, and treatments that, largely, are not mainstream or readily available in the US, yet. HOWEVER, my approach is holistic to ensure lasting results, and not for instant gratification. Within my holistic practice I embrace the belief that everything is connected: gut, skin, mental health, it's all deeply and uniquely intertwined – not just another face.
This is a holistic self-care journey and Boho Beauty is there with you.
